One of our software clients (we don't do their IT) has a heavy handed ITSP. They killed the MS store and broke all kinds of shit...

Yeah, our initial round of customizations when rolling out W10 included stripping out the store and ended up having to rebuild the image and re-format a whole deployment of 50 or more laptops.

Unless things have changed or my google-foo wasn't up to the task you're SOL on re-integrating the store if they really stripped it out like I had done.... You might be able to get it back with an in-place upgrade or repair if needed.

... Just saw that someone else has responsibility for their IT... tell them to talk to their IT and wash your hands of it. If policy is that the store is verboten (regardless or right, wrong or other reason) then you're only stepping on someone else's toes.

Workaround would be to install free replacement apps, but again, if you're in someone else's space it's best to let them manage their environment.

I'd love Windows without that Store bs. Sounds like a massive upgrade.

LIke @notverypunny, my first set of customizations I also stripped the store out.. Now I leave the store and calc, etc, but change the default start menu layout to not display the store.

Or just un-pin it from the task bar and don't use it... that has worked for me with zero issues.

I'm going to bookmark that page. Unfortunately, I saw your reply too late. I am in the process of "resetting" the PC. Lets see if this works.

I used your decrappifier script on Github like I have in the past, with zero issues. Not sure if this is related this time, or if the user just somehow screwed things up. No idea.

Yeah, lesson learned. Not sure if I did it or not, because this was deployed a month ago with zero reports of anything missing. Now everything is missing. So who knows what happened. Resetting PC now.

We'll if it was used to remove stuff permanently then it will be much more difficult to get back.

The decrapifier script will absolutely remove those exact things with one certain switch... Can't remember which one, I think it was -allapps. It says in the instructions that this switch removes the windows store and it's very difficult to get it back. I used to run it like that on everything, then the devs started asking where the calculator was.

Well there you go. It was my fault. 🙂 I did exactly that, and like an idiot, didn't RTFM.

I had modded the script to leave the calc, but it was removing the camera too. This ended up being a problem when we changed an inhouse process that now required the taking of customer photos for their files...

My solution was to format and re-install. Lesson learned!
