Opinions on POS/label printers?

We're looking at some low volume label printers, such as Zebra GK240t, Honeywell PC42t - in the $300 to $500 range. These are the same class of printers used in POS. We intend to run them with ribbons though in thermal transfer mode and print labels.
Does anyone have any experience with these printers? Any preference to what to pick? Other brands to consider?

Have all zebras here. The newer ones work fine. The older ones (LP2844) are a pain sometimes. We use all direct thermal here.

What models do you use?
Zebra have a lot of models but a lot of them look about the same to me. Have a hard time figuring out what the actual difference is.

I still know of an old zebra printer from the 80's that's still turning out labels. Those things are beasts of a a machine, much like Brother printers.

Warranty would be my guess.

We run Zebra GX430t units in the shops... I can only assume that they're decent since I rarely hear the 1st level guys complain about them knock wood

What I meant was that Dymo makes printers that takes Dymo labels. Sure other might make compatible labels but that is not what Dymo had in mind. Dymo sells their printers because they want you to buy their labels (which is where they make money).
Zebra and others on the other hand makes generic printers that take standard size media - just like an office printer takes "letter" size paper.

OK I getcha... like Keurig tried to pull with scanning a barcode on coffee pods - total fail! People will do damned near anything to override your lock-in when possible.
