Arrived in the office 30 minutes ago after nearly two hours of traffic jam

That's all billable wasted time that the business should be paying for.

You're kidding right? Almost no business will pay for this time, where you live in comparison to where you work is on you, not the employer.
Uncle SAM also says you can't claim this mileage on your taxes either, it's simply a cost of getting to work, just like work clothes aren't normally a write off either.

Today I learned not to cock up the DNS server during business hours, and also the importance of having a 2nd DC/DNS in the event of such cockery.

True, true... but it's a bad one to learn during business hours.

Oh yeah. The network adapter reset itself to DHCP, so I was able to finally track down its new IP and fix it. But it was kinda stressful for a bit.

oh? how does having a second one help? replication I assume would make that not overly helpful, unless you beat the replication timeframe (15 mins by default on a LAN I believe).

Hosed the VM. A secondary one would have kicked in faster than I got it fixed. Also, if it was bare metal, it would have taken 1 reboot's time to fix.
