Handling Downvotes

Here is how I use votes in general:
Upvote = I agree or I see your post and acknowledge it, but it doesn't necessitate me typing a full post to reply
Downvote = I disagree with what you said, but I don't want to invest the time arguing with you (for a variety of reasons)

It might change how/when I use downvoting initially if it is public. I don't do it often, but anonymity makes it too easy. It probably would change how I use it because if it is public it would give the downvotee the visibility to challenge me for negatively responding without feedback. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing.

And that's kinda the point of just upvoting a post. Removing the need for spam like us

We can always turn it off again, so let's have a go with visible downvotes.
It will show if someone is on a targeted downvote crusade to lower reputation of one specific user... which we've had before.

I don't see why it matters. Everyone is free to downvote me into oblivion. I could care less
