That's because no train goes between them. You have to take a train to a bus and/or go 50% farther because the train from Atlanta goes through Houston and on to San Antonio. Then a different train from San Antonio to Ft. Worth to Dallas. You literally spiral around your destination. It's terrible that there is no connector across norther LA.

I feel that way about the CHI to NYC run. Delays and transfers in Albany kill the Lakeshore run.
The other choice is to take the Capitol run and transfer in Pittsburgh, or DC.

@obsolesce and the cost.. Amtrak's costs are stupid compared to flight costs.

I selected a 4-bed "family room"... that took the cost to over $2000.

Don't know of anyone else from Oregon yet. I know that @Obsolesce is San Diego and @wrx7m is Oxnard. I know that Ob is attempting to make it at least.
@Romo is coming and is west coast, but farther south. As is @MarigabyFrias. Both are very close to the Pacific coast.

Is there any cost for bringing a guest? I would love to bring the wife. I doubt she would be interested in the tech, just a vacation.

Google maps used to tell me how long it would take to get to the US routed via Indonesia, Japan, Hawaii, and landing in Washington state... by Kayak. I think it used to be 3 months(?).
Now it's boring and won't tell me. Sorry, we could not calculate driving directions from "$Location "to "Dallas, Texas, USA"
Google: no longer the source of all knowledge.At least Google tells me the distance and flight time... unlike busted Bing: The distance between one or more waypoints is too long to calculate directions. Try getting directions for shorter distances.

@nadnerb Right? It used to tell you to get from China to Japan via jetski, but...unfortunately...it is no longer entertaining. It is just a tool, in both sense of the word.

We hadn't really thought about this yet, because let's face it, nobody's main squeeze was interested in going to Rochester, NY
