A new stick is out, this time it is Android running on a quad core Inter Atom processor with 2GB of RAM. Of note, this little stick can run Linux or, this is very interesting, Windows 8.1!

That's pretty cool. At that price we could see smart TV's with windows on them (actually I'm surprised we haven't yet).

I am sure that we will very soon. It is only incredibly recent that Microsoft made Windows free for these devices. There has not been time to get devices to market based on that yet.

A Smart TV won't qualify, it will be more than 7 or 8" screens.

Oh, good point.

Though I wonder if a small device like this could qualify, and you just use whatever display you want? Interesting sidestep to the problem.

Probably not, I forget the display requirement. This would count as a desktop... which doesn't qualify

But they would qualify for Windows with BING, which is a reduced price from standard.

lol - I know the point you're trying to make, but I see the use in TV more in line with your phone. I think it's highly likely that we'll see Windows 10 on TVs or at least something like Microsoft TV (though I suppose you could say we have that already with Xbox.

ordered. i'll let ya know how i like it

I'm going to use it as a GFI Dashboard monitoring PC plugged into a TV in my office that I can also remote into. only $125 shipped so it'l be here in oh 2-8 months lol AliExpress

Well it is a small, quad core, low power desktop computer that you can run Android, Linux or Windows on. So mostly anywhere that you need a low cost, low power desktop.
-
This would be an awesome POS or data collection computer, providing you can figure out a way to get USB attached to it. Although it does look like it has one port.
It would also work fairly well for digital signage.

I guess since I haven't followed the technology much, I am missing something. My take is that it's a USB device,.. But it's a desktop. But it doesn't make sense to plug it into my desktop to run a desktop... sorry.. Seems like a dense question I know.

It is actually a HDMI device that plugs into a monitor and is powered via USB (at least from what I am seeing).

Only looks like USB. That's the monitor output that you see.

AH! - Okay. That makes a tad bit more sense. Hmm.. I'll have to make a note of that,.. and see. I have the 32" TV at the house that doesn't get much use...
