Of course you can shut off services for non-payment.
Not in Georgia. Your rights are not spelled out by the law.
I'm just dumbfounded by shit like this.
Georgia is FUCKED. Don't get it twisted. Plus, Forsyth County can eat all the dicks.... they are a long standing bit of ridiculous. I feel really bad that Jim got fucked over like that.

Was the $78,000 that they "owed" past due, or was that the amount remaining on the contract? I wonder how many months behind they were and what notices had been sent out. I'm wondering how I would handle a situation like that if it ever came up.

At some point in one of these threads, maybe not on ML, most of those details were listed out. The details as we had originally seen them (it's quite some time now) there wasn't any grey area at all. They hadn't been paying, they weren't going to pay, they were outright trying to steal from him, they had loads and loads of warning... and when they weren't able to steal through pressure, they turned to corrupt government workers that, I assume, they bribed to up the extortion level beyond what he could take.

It was remainder of contract. They canceled early.

But, without a cancellation clause, which isn't exactly cancelling early but simply refusing to pay for what they had purchased, is my understanding. Contracts are like that, if the total due and the total service were done as a single entity or the pricing and service based on the total of the contract, it's not cancelling early. They might see it that way, but if the contract doesn't have a cancellation option, it's just not honoring the contract.

He had to file bankruptcy late last year. Have not heard more than that.

I and a few others here know the owner of this MSP! Just before he got his with this he actually won an award for that county as best MSP.
Well the client didn't pay their bill. So he shut off services.
And the fact that the new MSP took 10 days to get their email running..... there is a reason why he is cheaper
Same happens with municipal utilities. They will shut off your lights, water, and power for non-payment.

Yes but they can't do it the day after a missed payment, I think there are rules governing how that works.
I don't remember the specifics of this case, but how long haven't they paid? Were proper warnings given? Did he take the delinquent account to collections?

And the most recent post from him on the subject. So still nothing.

I agree. Having worked for municipal water, I gave people 90 days to pay. They didn't have to pay the full amount, just enough to turn the water back on which was 30 days. So people were really always behind by 2 months in that regard.
From the overview of the case, there was a lot of warning and leniency for an extended period of time. I'm guessing even compromises with partial payment. The rules are governed in the written contractual agreement though.

I know of no actual laws on this.
No business does it because it will be a death knell for them, but I do not know of laws on the subject for most services.
You set the terms for this when you create a contract. That is the only legally binding document on the matter.

No law that I'm aware in my state/locality. It's part of the contract you agree to.

Any update on this?

@RojoLoco Never! I have several friends, including my BF that are of Indian decent ir directly from India and they run in to racism all the time. I fight the fight with them to educate on and eradicate the ignorance behind racism.
Sadly, NE Ohio is still a hotbed of racism. Especially the area my wife lived in before we got married. It's even prevalent in the Amish population.
Some of the conversations with people make my head spin. Mostly not fit to share online for more than the obvious reasons
Upstate NY or central PA are the same way. Wonder if there is a correlation that can be made between that and types of jobs available?
I'd like to append that large swaths of PA and Oh are stained.

I know that the MSP owner in question has a new company and business now. Have not heard the latest on the suit, though.

Did anyone notice that the District Attorney holding the case open has almost the same name as the secretary on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel tv show.
