Comcast is STILL DOWN. This is insanity. I can't remember any ISP with outages like this. It's like they have running their networking infrastructure!
Way different , I wouldn’t compare it like that. Any one around that customer also down?
Down Detector shows half the country down for Comcast, and certainly an outage centered right on top of them.
This is a completely standard pattern for this customer. This is the four or fifth time in the last few weeks. Totally expected. Just a little longer than usual.
I assume they then don’t another ISP available to them.
Does Comcast exist anywhere with competition? If so, why?
It also depends of the location as to they why.
It was tongue in cheek. What kind of person would choose Comcast if anything else existed?
Do you want an answer?
LOL, is there one? I think not
Well, for that situation (granted this was a couple of years ago), it was determined that cost of an outage (granted, they were much shorter than this) wasn't enough to justify other ISP options, which were much more expensive than Comcast.
Well, and which didn't exist, I believe. They were expensive because they weren't there.
These outages are so extreme now, though. I wonder if that assessment is still true.
If I remember, 50/50 fiber was pushing 1k. But it's worth another look.
We'll have access to SpaceX satellite soon!
That is years out yet.

At my mum's for Sunday dinner planning the rest of the day.
- pack the daughters bag as she's off for a week
- mount a TV on the other daughters wall. But need to mount a piece of wood first as it's going into plaster board and I don't think the bracket will hold do needs better support
- clean the downstairs windows. Then put a sticker thing on the door glass
- shower
- nothing!

Still dealing with the Comcast outage.
-
On the phone with customers.
-
LOL, trying to explain which cords are power and which are Ethernet. Oh boy.
-
We are finally back up, it was Comcast's gear that failed to keep talking to their network. Probably their local outage was too long for it.

So old reboot style I would have wondered that, usually that’s what we do with troubleshooting.

We tried it as soon as someone was physically in the office to do so.

We've got @pchiodo scheduled to move from Windows to Fedora next week. Another Windows user being converted. Slowly, one at a time, I'll get everyone moved over
Start working on some of the many program developers ... as there are some programs that are only written for Windows,.. and the Linux 'version' is no where near the level of the developed Windows ones.
What do you mean? Linux is way ahead of Windows for development. If there is specifically one area that it blows it away, that's it.
So no examples then
I think you'll find, it's always people doing things on Linux that they'd never do with Windows, then thinking it is hard because they are trying to do something weird instead of trying to use it like a normal computer. Like using non-standard architectures, weird distros, niche software. Things that Windows either does horribly or not at all.
There are a few - but it isn't a point I feel the need to beat on.
Except you brought it up.
Yes - yes I did. There are a number of Windows Only applications with bare minimal equivalent for Linux.
The Plantronics Desk Headset I have works perfectly under Windows with the driver. I can answer a Skype call or my desk phone without having to do much other than lift the headset from the cradle - There isn't that level of support in Linux.
And while Linux has made inroads on a number of programs, there are just some that are not available yet. And the developer doesn't plan on doing so - while their software is open source and if another wanted to pick it up and open a Linux path - they could.. but on some softwares - it's not practical since it doesn't have Business Common applications.

I’ve wanted to cold smoke cheese for a while. I’m interested in that design

It is an Ad Hoc design of I wonder if this will work.
- Gallon Paint can
- 4" Duct Starter
- 4" to 3" reducer
- 8' 4" tube (not shown)
I used the can opener on my Leatherman to cut slots about every inch around the bottom of the paint can, but believe some higher up will be needed as the charcoal briquettes burn and 'smother' them
To reduce the rate of chip burn - they will likely go into another pan, above the charcoal...
