In-house IM service

Good Morning,
I got a request from a few people to have an in-house Messenger system. We are running Exchange 2016 in house. Anyone have any suggestions? It could be beneficial to have AD integration.

Rocket.chat or MatterMost both can integrate with AD.

What are the requirements? Text only? audio? video? desktop sharing? free?

Check out Openfire also. -
We like Rocket.chat a lot. OpenFire is really good if you want a traditional experience.

Really basic and crufty messaging is build into Sodium as well, but will be getting a lot more robust in the future.

Openfire is still being developed but basically a web interface for it will be outdated, the clients work fine and any XMPP client is supported.

That's a good way to put it. About as basic and crufty as it gets but with plans to revamp with plenty more options. Just a matter of when.

When it is done, it'll be a lot like having Rocket.chat, but free and hosted without needing your own server, and integrated with services you use for other things too

You have loads of choices. But I'd gravitate to Rocket.chat for modern style like Slack and OpenFire for XMPP style.
