What LVM GUI to Use for Remote Linux Machine
-
Cross post for @kuyaz
Is there anyway to install LVM GUI and use it for another remote machine ?
any recommended LVM GUI that is user friendly?
-
There are a few tools that can do this locally. You could probably use them remotely, but that would be a big pain.
Honestly, LVM is so easy to use from the command line, and so easy to use remotely from the command line, that there is no need for a GUI at all, let alone a remote one.
Plus LVM is something you set up during install and basically never have to look at again. So having a GUI would be more effort to set up than just doing the LVM setup itself.

@mlnews Forgive my ignorance. How often would someone need to use LVM?

Typically... once when a system is first installed (generally a GUI at that time) and then never again. Those that do use it would typically be once every few years. It's a super rare thing to do.

I thought that would be the case. I had to lookup what it was. Once I realized what it was, I didn't think it would be used more than the Windows equivalent.

It's more powerful and flexible, so it might get used just a little bit more often. But basically the same. It just sits there doing its job.

Kind of like filesystem settings. Basically you choose your filesystem at install time and you are done.

Now I am curious as to what @mlnews is doing that warrants the request.

Cockpit
Does Cockpit cover LVM functions now? That's pretty cool if so. I've not looked at it in a while.

Cockpit is a really useful utility. It's a web GUI and it is made by Fedora. So it is fully included, set up, secured, and supported as part of the OS.

You can add other servers that has cockpit installed and managed them from one webui.

@tim_g manage to install cockpit, but the storage menu wont show up. It is on centos 7 - xen dom0 .
Any idea how to show the storage menu?It is working well in my fedora 26 in my laptop. I have the storage menu.

I did install Cockpit on CentOS once... but I can't recall whether or not I had a storage menu item. I've been using Fedora 99% of the time.
I'll check it out tomorrow.

In one of my cases, for ovirt-engine.

For KVM especially you’ll want Fedora.
