It is Gnome but it is a Unity styled Gnome interface.

Why couldn't Canonical do it that way from the beginning?

A question everyone has been asking, I think.

Like many things with Ubuntu, Canonical seems to have a trend of attempting to subtly splinter the Linux community, rather than attempting to unite it.

I'll be honest, if it wasn't for Ubuntu. I would either been late to adopt Linux or wouldn't even try Linux at all.

How come? Ubuntu made Linux so much harder and confusing than it needed to be. What about Ubuntu made you want to venture over?

This would be an interesting topic of it's own: what was your first Linux distro that made you venture over, and why? First impressions?

I didn't search for a similar topic, so if one exists already, my apologies.

Back then, I felt more comfortable with it compare to the rest.

Ubuntu Server has always been my go-to because it seemed to be the most popular a few years ago. Now, i tend to gravitate towards Fedora and CentOS for my test servers and lab stuff. I will be the first to admit that I am far from an expert but I am trying to learn it as quick as possible. I am however running Mint at home. Thought about trying Fedora desktop though. I just hate always switching. I end up using the desktop as a glorified web browsing box and never actually put any files on it.

A Chromebook would be good for that, or something running ChromeOS.

@tim_g I thought about it but have never used one so I was hesitant to purchase even though they are "cheap".

I would love to do daily driver stuff on Linux but every time I read on ML, I want to try a different OS. Seems as if there is a new favorite flavor every week....like Korora was for a while.

Korora is great. It's just a more customized Fedora Desktop... coming with some things that Fedora does not. But they are really pretty much the same.

I went with straight Fedora Desktop (Cinnamon) because it works better on my hardware than Korora did, and seems a bit smoother. Can't go wrong either way, unless your hardware works better with one over the other.

I recently tried Fedora 27 Beta (Gnome 3.26) Live-boot on my ASUS ROG laptop at home... it booted up and ran just fine. It got stuck shutting down, and I didn't get a chance to see how the video was handled (for games).

I will try it out more later.

@tim_g I will probably try Fedora this weekend as there were some issues on the HP machine it was running it on with Ubuntu and Mint such as audio output and shutdown.

I had shut-down issues with Mint on the HP Envy 700??? It would reboot instead of shut down.

Korora is nice but there distro releases is slow. You will always be one version behind Fedora. That's my biggest reason to stick with Fedora instead.
