@wrcombs If you are receiving a subsidy from the state, there are bound to be requirements to receive the subsidy. This is one such requirement.
You are receiving low cost daycare, a requirement to that is an annual household checkup.
I get it, and don't disagree with there being stipulations on it. It makes sense to me, to ensure that the child is in a safe home etc.
Of course, I'm sure that these checkups then could evolve into CPS visits etc. But if it's not CPS, but a daycare provider. . . I guess I don't see why bother?
Why make the daycare provider (teacher) perform the check-in. Why wouldn't a CPS rep do this? I guess because you know the teacher, and no a random stranger from CPS. . .
Because they dont want to waste city services on something as simple as a home visit ( @Dashrender allow me to clarify - its more of a parent - teacher conference but in the comfort of your own home.
IF they had to do a full home sweep CPS would be called ( im sure) but that has hardly happened ( never for me )What a complete waste of time - so now you're telling us that the government is paying that person to drive to your home and all those associated costs so you can have an parent teacher conference, when you could simply stay at the school a bit longer when you pickup your child one day. /sigh.
yep. pretty much

I guess the question is why aren't they speaking with the kids mother (or primary care taker and residence operator) rather than you?
It seems like an attempt to milk you for your money for your ex. . . . (wooh he just bought this. . . Take him to court to get more money)
(cynical me)
Because my ex wasnt answering her phone. She said it was my thing since i have weekdays off most times. But after today they have to go through her for all of that or she needs to add me as primary care giver on the account
So she doesn't do what is required and they don't care, but if you don't do what isn't required, they take action? Seriously, this is when lawyers step in. I'd be all over them for discrimination in a flash. They have legal responsibilities that they are shirking and are taking advantage of their position to basically threaten you.
I have to agree with @scottalanmiller here, if she isn't answering her phone that could be considered abandonment of the child. So why aren't they calling CPS on her, and bringing the child to the responsible parent who is answering the phone?
"Because she wasn't answering her phone" doesn't mean you kidnapped her, and have her locked up in your basement. So why "stop-in" and see what's up?!
Because she still picked up our son, but when she did the ones who stopped me arent there because its later than when I pick him up
And she claims she doesnt get calls but they text her too ( they have that option) and she resposes to some of them Its a huge cluster fuck of situation that i am cursed with basicallySo again, you should be documenting this and bring it up with your attorney to fight for sole custody and child support. I sure as shit would.
If she is shirking her responsibility as a parent, how is she a reasonable parent?
And, more importantly, the STATE has recognized you as the sole parent and has recognized that she has abandoned the child. The STATE has! The school, is a state agency, so that carries a LOT of weight. Right or wrong, the state has made one whopping statement there.
That was my point. The school said "well dad always answers, lets call him". That is clearly a statement of faith that the judge never was able to see.
And would make for one hell of an argument in family court for a reversal of roles.
They didnt even have my number until a week ago. But i see what your saying
But if you were the emergency contact, how could they not have had your number? Something doesn't add up, maybe I missed a part of the topic or something.
But as it sounds, she is shirking her responsibility and expecting you to pick up after her. Which solely makes you the responsible adult in the arrangement. . .
basically - they had my number for emergency contacts i.e if he was sick at school or such i had to pick him up. but she's the 'main' on the account- making her number the first one they call in the event of things not being done such as a home visit-
I didnt get a call about it - i was told last week that it had to be done, or else he couldnt go back at all, so i just did what i had to do to keep him enrolled.
Now they have my number as a secondary contact in case she doesnt answer. and she know that now.OK so the picture is coming together - they tried calling her for a home visit, she didn't answer - when they saw you - they assumed you were married/together with the mother (because they didn't bother to actually do research on the child) and told you about the required home visit. Now me - I would have been like - uh I don't have primary custody, do you still need to visit my home? and hopefully that would have sparked them actually doing their job and seeing you NOT listed as primary and then left you alone. But since you said - OK fine whatever, they just visited you. Now I'm assuming they realize their mistake, but meh, they can wait until the next required visit to actually visit the residence listed as primary.

I fixed the book keeper's PC yesterday, saving her 4 hours of manual entry - so she said she's buying me a coffee. Very nice of her.

This is one of the few people who actually listen to me talk about security, locking their computer, having different passwords everywhere, etc.
