No certs, no education (in IT), no experience, no posting on IT social media, no home lab, lots of time wasted on things that show he's not researched properly before jumping in, literally less than we use to choose high school kids!
and he's personally attacking you now
What else is new?

Ha! I haven't followed the thread since Scott first linked it.
It's not very good and he's not learning from the thread.

I think Scott is a very misunderstood guy on SW or maybe in general

@scottalanmiller Level 0 rather than Level 1, where most of use start.
No, he's not ready for an L0. He has NOTHING to show right now. Not a thing. That's a big problem.

Sounds like a coworker of mine. No ambition in IT, texts his wife all day long, doesn't even close out tickets on the helpdesk. The only reason why he's here is that he's buddies with my boss.

Well, given that they are happy to keep him, seems like it would be silly for him to work harder, right?

But that is the problem. The only person willing to keep him is my boss and only because he's his buddy and a warm body. Nobody else is really happy with him at all.

We (Laura and I) have a friend (Daniella) who has a boyfriend (Tim). Tim constantly talks about wanting to get into IT. Daniella's father has given him a ton of networking equipment and explained how to create a low cost lab in order to aid in the learning process. It's been 6 months and Sunday I asked how far along Tim is. All of the networking equipment her father gave him is sitting inside of the trunk of his car and never left it since the night he put in it there. Her never created a lab and has never read a book. I asked if he is still interested in learning IT. Daniella says it's all he talks about.

Which indicates a total lack of professional interaction experience. Just not pandering and condescending often sets people off. Do they actually want me to just mock them?

So? Why would he care about that? He's doing a job that makes the boss happy. What other people think of him isn't really relevant, is it?

With the exception of me and one co-worker you could say the same thing about everyone here. My company is not interested in improving things to the degree that is required.
Note: Even my one useful co-worker told me last week that he is so unmotivated to fix things here due to the insane levels of pushback anytime you want to change anything.

Yes, I would. Excellence is always top down, not bottom up.

I think it's more people not being able to detach themselves form their ideas, which is what you are really attacking

i didn't even attack anything. he asked why something was broken, I showed where it was broken. I didn't even attack his ideas, just repeated back what he had told me.
