What is SuperMicro's alternative to iLO and iDrac.

I've never investigated it, but I assume there has to be some out of band management solution that they have, right?

Yep. Also, I spy with my little eyes.... no additional licensing required.

Last I knew, that's correct. If they need a license, that's a new thing since my last machine.

Sad that it is becoming the exception instead of the rule.

HP was always an extra license. Dell might always have been, too. I think that SM was always the exception.

I'f I'm buying a system with OOB functionality, I don't expect to have to pay more for some sub-feature of it.

Like if I bought a car, I wouldn't expect to have to put a dollar into the radio every time I wanted to listen to the radio!

Well think of it as having NOT bought OOB functionality and you need to add it on.

That's how all cars are today. Seen a car in the last decade? You need a subscription to use the Sirius radio features.

That would be like buying a phone and then having to still pay for cell service every month! That would be crazy.

It's subscription satellite radio - it's not typical OTA free radio.

But Dustin, I don't agree that you should expect remote access, etc just because the baseline tech is installed in the hardware, just like you don't get Sirius free with the radio, you don't get remote console management free with iLo.

AFAIK even Dell can be managed with plain ipmi. at least this is what a dell representative said me last year during a meeting.
                                        don't think so about HPE.
these are SM IPMI tools. I think some are free some are not.

The IPMI from SuperMicro has a web interface where you can do user maintenance for ipmi, remote control of hosts, record video(for recording other people's access to this system i guess), from there you can set Serial over Lan options. Here is the base screenshot

It does use java for some things still. There are also functions here i have no clue what they are. No idea what RAKP Protocol Setting is, but it is there.
Here is a nice feature, it shows how much power your host is using. It changes every few seconds.
