Making a formal thread to discuss the Steam Winter Sale and the outage that has been ongoing since approximately 10:30 AM Eastern.

There have been claims, completely non-validated that Phantom Squad is behind the outage, but I'm calling BS on this.

Downdetector and other sites have been perpetuating this claim sadly...

Numerous articles of the outage are popping up, and no one has a clue as to the cause, there has been no formal word from Steam regarding getting the issue resolved that I've been able to find.

Steam's twitter feed has been extremely quite without an official comment about the outage at all.

This outage appears to be effecting everyone globally from what I'm seeing posted on sites such as down detector, twitter and general news articles.

But is an outage like this the norm? I've seen issues with the store being down, but not everything. The scale of this outage is unprecedented to previous outages.

I've seen this before. But they've had so much prep time for this and this is over three hours now!

https://steamcommunity.com appears to be operational still, but steampowered.com is offline.

Definitely a massive and wide spread outage. I wouldn't be surprised if this was an attack by someone.

I wonder if this outage is making people jump to other platforms, like Origin.

It's possible sure, but no other platform like this has such a wide variety of software -- at least none that I know of. GOG is my second choice for games.

@dafyre Yea GOG is decent, I honestly don't vary my platform at all. I have an Origin account with 1 game on it.

So I never experience these kinds of issues with the others. This is actually the first steam outage that I've ever experienced.

My steam account is logged in at the house. I wonder if FF9 will work.

Yeah I just tried and am at able to sign into my steam account.

Testing a few games now.
