This is for the neighbor, but looking at options of AntiVirus packages on Chocolatey.org. Which is the best option, AVG seems to be heavy on the ad/nagware.

I'm actually a pretty big fan of BitDefender, both as personal and enterprise.
(they have a nice admin interface and didn't cause as many severe system crashes as their competitors)

I don't do windows@home so I don't get many excuses to use it anymore, but a couple years ago I did extensive Enterprise AV testing and found it to be the only one I'd actually recommend from an Administration standpoint.

For anyone interested who doesn't have chocolatey installed these are the options to chose from.

I've always been a big fan of ClamAV and ClamWin for Windows machines. They have been releasing new features every year. I've never used Clam Sentinel but that seems to add some of the automation that other AV providers have.

Oddly ClamWin and ClamSentinel don't appear in the AV search, you have to search for them independently.

                But they are in there.

I use Avast for Business the free edition for all my home and family machines.

Between that and no accounts having admin rights, I have not had any issues.

Avira has been decent. I'm not sure that I'd use any of these to replace Windows Defender, though. If you are getting high end stuff like Webroot or Cylance, yeah, but entry level free stuff, I'd stick with Windows Defender. I'm not the AV expert, so take that with a grain of salt.

I know I could use WebRoot for my personal computers, but this was for someone else. They had McAfee which was expired. I prefer free over paid, though I know there is a bit of a compromise.
