Very tempting. Will have to see what Asus has to offer before I decide.

Finally - only took them three tries to get something that looks like it might be right. I love the idea of the 12" display!

I have the Surface Pro2 and am really loving it. It is the perfect in between a laptop and tablet. There are so many times that I want a real laptop with a cd burner that not having that would be a issue for me.

Migrations from XP to Windows 7 (we have done a few of them that the USB's on the desktop no longer work and neither will the networking card until you get driver updates). CD is the only choice then. The joys of working with cheap SMB's that don't have the things you need onsite.

And I was the only one onsite who had a laptop with a drive in it.

Sounds like a proper inventory wasn't done before the project started (I've been guilty of that before though.. so no blame).

Yeah when the boss there is there for documentation purposes is the one who saves the day from others that were to do the project setup..... lucky for them I am always over prepared for things.

Looks like a nice unit. MS seems to be slowly figuring out how to make tablets.

@Reid-Cooper Really? Because of its size, it feels like more of a touch-screen laptop than a tablet to me, though I'll admit I have no idea (or care) what the formal definitions are. I can see us replacing our existing Windows 7 Lenovo laptops for our sales reps with new Surface Pro's later on this year (although we may yet go with iPads, depending on whether they get on with Office on the Ipad and whether Pertino get round to supporting them). It will impress clients during meetings if nothing else.

For travellers spending a lot of time in hotel rooms, I can see the benefits of the nice screen when watching movies. But sitting on a train reading a Kindle book with a 12" screen? Not so much.

For me, I still prefer an ultrabook. I like the clamshell design of them, and they work better on my lap. Ultrabook plus 7" tablet, FTW.

I prefer ultrabooks for laptops and the smaller tablets like the iPad Mini for tablets.

This device does suffer one huge problem in my mind if it's to replace laptops.. and that's lapability! Using the Surface in your lap is nearly impossible compared to a normal laptop/ultrabook.

I use mine almost daily on my couch, while I love the new larger size of the surface pro 3, I don't see one in my future.

Yup. I find the whole Surface concept pretty weird. I can't find any use can where I would prefer it.

I think my docs might like it in clinic.. I'm going to get one to see what they think of it.

If the goal is to have a huge tablet with a crappy Metro interface, yeah it's good for that.

I concur... I'm sure we won't use the Metro interface.. we'll use the browser in windows mode since the Metro browser isn't supported by the vendor site.

While I agree for using on your lap that the whole kick stand makes it impossible and you need a lapdesk to use it. For walking around being able to take notes etc. very easily in OneNote, either via the attached keyboard which you can't if walking, or handwriting or on screen keyboard. That option has been great while on client sites. Love the fine point "pen".

It is a snazzy portable "tablet/laptop" hybrid. I rarely use the stupid metro page for anything desktop or tablet. No point in it.

To call it a tablet is very deceiving though but it's not a laptop either can't convince me of it.

I remove almost all "metro" apps when I setup W8 for my clients. Some never see the start screen when I check that box and pin 99% of their daily apps/programs to the task bar. 99% of W8 concerns disappear.

I use a Asus TF101 on my lap using the dock. Does the Surface have to use the "kickstand"?
