Welcome to America. Lots of companies do that in the US.
I thought it was the land of the free? You have the right to bear arms but not the right to have facial hair?

They think they are...They are currently ranked 11th in terms of economic Freedom...and overall freedom is normally around the 7th mark for them...New Zealand is the "free"-est country overall IIRC

Give them their guns and they'll let you do whatever you want, because many believe guns protect them from the government, much like the massive gun ownership in Iraq helped protect all the citizens from Saddam Hussein's reign of terror.

This is easy. Start going to a Sikh temple and tell them that your beard is a part of your religion. Argument over.

You gotta follow dumb policies or find a better company to work for,
We don't have policies like that or hardly any dress code either!
Agreed, that's a terrible thing for a workplace to care about. It means they can't figure out how to manage to make rules to cover up that they are not managing.
I've had many places I've worked do that.. not here but Government did.

Unless you told them that at the time of hiring they don't have to make an exception.

That was one of my suggestions, except you don't even have to go to the temple, who is going to check? And hey, I said the same thing and you got two points and I got one? It's just a damn popularity contest with you people!
