Microsoft Holds Windows Encryption Keys
-
By default, many new Windows devices are coming with encryption turned on. Since this is by default and most users are not even aware it is not that big of a deal that Microsoft has decided to retain a copy of said encryption keys themselves. Since users are not aware that they are even encrypted, at least in most cases, that Microsoft can decrypt them still leaves them vastly more secure than they realized that they were anyway. But for those counting on that encryption, it leaves a critical security gap. Thankfully, for users "in the know" they can choose to delete these keys if they want to do so.

This is only true if you A) Use a Microsoft Account and B) Use Express Settings

I wonder if this is true given that they lost my account

Do you use your NTG account (assuming that's the one that's lost) as your MS account for Windows 10?
Also, I don't think O365 accounts have anything to do with MS accounts in regards to the MS account that Windows 10 uses for things like OneDrive and the Windows Store. even though the account name and password might be the same, but I could be wrong.

I'm no Linux Mint now But when I was on Windows 10 I was using my NTG account and my personal account. Both were lost.

Welcome to the world of Microsoft. I've had a case open for four or five months now. Same one that lost my email and ODfB access. They lost both my work and personal all at the same time. I wasn't even involved, it was all Microsoft's own techs doing stuff and broke it all together.

Correct. MS account is totally separate from O365 account.

Unless you use the same account for everything. Well, then it is still separate, but seems the same and is very confusing.
Don't ask me how I know.
